100% Post-Consumer Plastic Material
We're proud to have introduced a recycled version of our FlexLight material in 2019 for all Canadian-made sublimated goods, and earlier this year for our VC Blue Line European-made FlexLight apparel.
Are you as curious as us, wanting to know exactly how recycled material is made? If so, you're in luck!
As you can see in the diagram below – plastic bottles are sorted, washed and chopped into flake (1), which are then blended, melted and turned into chips (2). The chips then go through an extrusion and texturing process and get transformed into fibers (3) with inherent properties, such as moisture wicking and thermal regulation. Our fabric is weaved using these fibres (4).
Certification
Our FlexLight fabric is certified to have been made of 100% post-consumer recycled polyester, as outlined in the Global Recycled Standards (version 4.0).
How can I tell if my jersey is made from Recycled FlexLight?
Our signature rubber label is a fan favorite, as well as an indicator of true VC-made quality. It also helps us be transparent about where each garment has been made, and now indicates what it is made from.
While you can tell if a garment was made in Europe by the blue label on it, you can now tell if a piece of apparel is made from Recycled FlexLight by the hint of green in our classic grey rubber label. For products which don't feature a rubber label, we've inserted a small tag to help identify them as a piece of apparel trying to make a difference for our planet.
We have also updated our product pages to include the recycled FlexLight logo, giving you more information on what you're ordering.
Do you have any questions about our recycled FlexLight or product offerings, or have an idea for VC to be more environmentally responsible? Please get in touch, we'd love to hear from you!
