Leading up to the tournament, NSOM and Vintage come in seeded high and with expectations just as high. We asked both teams a few questions to get a feel for what they are hoping to see this week at the World Masters Ultimate Club Championships in Winnipeg. For more behind the scenes, connect with us on Instagram and Twitter—we'll be live at the fields all week!
NSOM Disque Club (Open Masters)
What are some of NSOM's achievements in the past that people should know about?
We won the Nationals Championship the last two years, and we've won the spirit award at Nationals 3 times in the last 5 years, so we have a history of winning with spirit. The team is compromised of people who used to play Mephisto, Odysseee and Onyx.
How has training been leading up to WMUCC?
The team was selected in March, but we've been training since January. One of our teammates owns a Crossfit Gym so we've been using that to keep in shape.
What are your expectation of how you'll do within your pool and overall this tournament?
We're aiming for a top 3 performance; we are confident that we have the talent to get there. We're really anxious to face all the teams, especially the USA teams. We've met All Bashed Out twice this year in games and we won both in a very tight fashion. It should be a great tournament.
Anything else to add?
We have a very deep roster from all around the province of Quebec.
Vintage (Women's Masters)
How was training leading up to WMUCC?
We chose to train as a team once a week, and we trust our teammates to train appropriately off-field to be in shape and ready to perform for WMUCC. In our season planning, we had two tournaments to get ready and this gave us the opportunity to fix our strategies by facing good opponents.
What is your goal at the tournament?
We are the defending World Champs and we want to prove to the world that we are back—older, but back!
What are you most excited for?
Our motto this year is #OneLastRide. We feel it expresses the fact that Vintage is a bunch of friends playing together for years and hoping to have fun on and off the field.
Anything else?
Let's play with spirit!
