WFDF Uniform Guidelines

The World Flying Disc Federation (World Flying Disc Federation) uniform requirements are designed to ensure clear player identification, competitive fairness, player safety, and a professional presentation of the sport at WFDF-sanctioned events. These standards establish minimum requirements while allowing flexibility where possible.

Uniform Guidelines | Purpose and Scope

Uniform regulations primarily exist to clearly distinguish opposing teams and identify individual players. Secondary objectives include supporting player safety and comfort, maintaining competitive equity, and presenting a professional image of ultimate in media and spectator contexts. WFDF seeks to minimize unnecessary cost burdens while encouraging teams, when feasible, to exceed minimum standards.

WFDF reserves the right to require modification or replacement of any uniform element that does not meet these objectives or conflicts with event standards or policies.

WFDF Required Uniform Components

A legal uniform must include:

• An upper garment covering the chest and abdomen
• A lower-body garment covering the lower torso and upper legs

Single-piece garments are permitted if they meet both requirements.

All uniform items must be of professional quality and must not detract from the image of the sport.

Uniform Colour Sets and Game Designation

Teams must bring at least two clearly distinct sets of shirts to every game. Colour distinction must consider colour-vision accessibility.

If designated, the home team has first choice of shirt colour. If not designated, home/away status is determined by team captains via a fair method. Teams may declare a “home” shirt in advance and are bound by that declaration.

Shirts and Numbering

• All players must wear shirts matching in colour and pattern (sleeve length may vary).
• Each player must be assigned a unique integer between 0 and 99 for each game.
• Numbers must appear on the back of the shirt, in Arabic numerals only.
• Minimum digit height: 16 cm
• Minimum line width: 3 cm
• Numbers must be a single solid colour with a minimum 6:1 contrast ratio against the shirt.
• Numbers must be unobstructed and clearly visible from distance.

Optional additional number placements are permitted provided visibility standards are maintained.

Pants

All players must wear pants matching in colour and pattern. Pants may optionally display the player’s number on the front left leg, matching the shirt number.

Optional Uniform Elements

Permitted optional elements include:

• Player names on shirts

• Sponsor logos

• National flags and/or IOC country codes for national teams

All optional elements remain subject to WFDF branding and expression policies.

Undergarments and Accessories

Undergarments are permitted for protection or comfort. Exposed portions should be black, white, or match the primary uniform colours to maintain visual consistency.

Gloves are permitted provided they do not damage the disc or leave residue. Grip-enhancing substances applied to hands are prohibited.

Headwear is permitted for protection or comfort. If worn by multiple players, headwear must be similar in style and colour.

Matching socks are encouraged where long socks are worn but are not mandatory.

Footwear

Players must wear shoes or boots. Footwear does not need to match. Studs or ridges must not protrude more than 20 mm from the sole and must not have sharp edges.

Safety, Fairness, and Conduct

Players must not wear:

• Items that pose danger to others (e.g., fully metallic studs, casts)

• Items that artificially enhance physical presence or provide competitive advantage

Uniforms must comply with the WFDF Social Expression Policy. Non-related commercial logos or symbolism are prohibited unless explicitly permitted under policy. Voice-amplifying devices and disruptive props are not allowed.

Coaches and Support Staff

Sideline personnel must wear appropriate attire, preferably aligned stylistically with the team but visually distinct from players. Attire may be required to change if it conflicts with officials or event standards.
