Over the last decade, November has become an important month for online retail sales: Black Friday and Cyber Monday (BFCM) marketing is now seen as essential to every company managing an online store. This said, we find these pinnacles of reckless consumerism particularly troubling.
While we couldn't ignore the income opportunity of the month completely – especially in a year like 2020, with such an extreme revenue drop – we have chosen to do things differently this year.
First, we sent out generic special offers to our valued customers starting much earlier in the month. Secondly, we will not offer any additional discounts solely in the name of BFCM. Let us say this again:
We will not offer any additional discounts solely in the name of Black Friday or Cyber Monday this year.
Instead, we have focused our energy on a campaign to help encourage our community to support each other, and invited key partners to join us in this Part of the Solution campaign.
Part of the Solution
During the traditional five days of BFCM, instead of offering steep discounts on apparel, we will be highlighting our community partners. We asked each featured partner to choose an organization, which will receive the partner’s standard commission* for all sales between November 26th and 30th.
VC will match these donations to the chosen organizations, resulting in contributions of 30-45% of every partner-gear sale price.
