Sublimation is the most detailed way to customize performance apparel, allowing for endless creative possibilities. Designs can incorporate any colour, gradient, font or other effect, and can go across seams, under arms, along waistbands - all while maintaining the wicking properties of the fabric.
How it Works
Sublimation is a process whereby ink is actually burned into the fibres of the garment, as opposed to the way ink is caked on top of the material in silk screening. The design is first printed on paper sheets, then applied to the garment using a heat press.
The technical benefits of sublimation are as impressive; once a design has been sublimated it will become part of the material. The design will stretch with the fabric, it will allow sweat to wick through the design, and the image surface will not crack or fade over time or with repeated washing.
Full Sub vs. Spot Sub
Full-body sublimation involves sublimating panels of fabric before they are sewn together, which allows you to maximize your design space. This requires a significant amount of design attention, since the art for each unit must be:
- Situated on a template
- Set up with each player number and name on the correct size
- Test pressed to ensure the colours printed match expectations
- Printed onto large sheets of specialized paper, and then sublimated into blank white material
Spot sublimation is a process by which your design is applied to a smaller area of a previously sewn white garment. With spot sublimation, you can effectively have as many colors as you like in your design (gradients and shading as well) without incurring the extra screen set up fees.
The maximum area for a spot sublimated logo is 15 inches by 15 inches. You can put several spot sublimated logos together to achieve a larger look, but you should leave a gap in the design to allow for some flexibility in lining the artwork up on each jersey.
We only spot sublimate on white garments.
VC staff thoroughly reviews all orders, but each sublimated garment is unique and hand made. Some inconsistencies may occur from print to print including: small colour discrepancies, dust spots, and "ghosting" or colour shadowing. These are part of the sublimation process and cannot be prevented. If you believe there is a problem with one of our products beyond these issues, please contact us.
To determine complete item pricing for your spot sublimated gear, we take the base price of the product and add the requested spot sublimation cost.
For example, a short sleeve jersey with a standard spot sub logo on the front (8"x8") and small logo over a player number on the back would be priced out like this, assuming your team order was 12+ units:
Short sleeve jersey: $25
Spot sub front logo: $6
Spot sub back: $6 + $1 = $7*
*Since the full back number + logo fits within the same 8"x8" area (i.e. we can apply the design in one "hit"), the back cost is only $7.
If you qualify for a partnership/sponsorship discount or special offer, that is taken off the base product price. For example, a 10% discount would make this jersey $35.50.

For example, if you have a medium sized front logo, or "hit", with a number included, the price would be $7 (12-14 units). If you had a big back hit including a small team logo, player name and number, the price would be $11 (12-14 units).
